Tax Reform and Fiscal Responsibility
Republicans believe in low taxes, and small government. It will take fiscal discipline to achieve meaningful tax relief. I will fight for a reduction and eventual elimination of the SC income tax in ways that force accountability on state spending. It's time to end the bloat and inefficiencies in the state government bureaucracy with Zero-Based budgeting and other accountability measures. A competitive taxation system will produce both economic growth and huge savings for hardworking taxpayers.
Public Education Reform and School Choice
Parents should be empowered to choose the best education for their children through school choice. Education should not be a one-size-fits-all model that limits parents from making the best choices for their children. My priority however, will be to implement comprehensive public school reform to address such issues as student behavior, student achievement, Special Education, testing and curriculum, and unified school board training. As a former South Carolina public school teacher serving the most vulnerable student populations, I feel I have the unique ability to bring about true public education reform to our state.
Public Safety/Law & Order
It's critical to stand on the side of strengthening public safety and in support of our law enforcement officers. Currently District 75 is experiencing an upsurge in car break-ins and home break-ins. Gun shots can be heard at night all across our community. I will work with our local authorities to ensure that they have all resources necessary and the laws in place to fight crime and keep our community safe.
MAHA in SC
Improving the mental and physical health of our children should be a top priority. In our public schools, I will work to make outdoor time and physical education mandatory, require an integrated nutritional curriculum starting in elementary schools, promote less screen time, and incentivize school districts to use SC grown food products to be served in our children's school cafeterias. Businesses can also be encouraged through tax incentives to prioritize using meal ingredients from SC grown farmers and fishermen, as well as limiting the use of seed oil for foods cooked in restaurants.
Supporting Small Businesses
It's critical to support legislative measures that would allow small businesses to thrive in our district, as well as across our state. This means supporting reforming regulations that hinder small business owners, such as business licensing requirements, and being overtaxed. I will support Trump’s QBI plan to be implemented in South Carolina. This plan would allow small businesses to take advantage of the 20% flow through taxable income deduction that mirrors the federal plan. I also understand the need for employees that are trained, educated, and are responsive to the needs of our small business owners. I intend to increase the supply of workers through public school reform initiatives and a push for technical training in SC high schools that address the needs of our state’s major industries: tourism, farming, building, and manufacturing.
Military Support
Growing up in Beaufort, South Carolina I experienced firsthand the positive impacts of the military community. Beaufort is home to Paris Island, the Naval Hospital, and the Marine Corp Air Station. As a teacher in public schools, military children and their families became an important part of our school community. I fully understand the impact that Fort Jackson has on District 75. Military families patron our local businesses, and their children sit in classrooms across our school district. Fort Jackson has a $4.7 billion economic impact within our community and our state. Fort Jackson, the SC National Guard, McEntire Joint National Guard Base, Department of Defense contractors, the US Army Reserve, military retirees, and veterans all contribute over $6.6 billion to our state’s economy. Their presence is of extreme importance, and I will always be a voice of unwavering support for them and their concerns.
Our Pets
As an avid dog lover, I will be a strong advocate for the welfare of our beloved pets across South Carolina. If elected, I pledge to:
Fight for more severe penalties for animal abuse • Work to eliminate county pet licensing fees • Work for tax incentives for people who adopt from our local shelters and increase funding for our local animal shelters to update facilities to be more inviting to the public • Work to ensure that our local Animal Control officers/Animal Enforcement Units have the necessary resources and equipment to carry out their duties, then provide incentives for them to catch feral animals for spay & neuter programs • Fight for stronger enforcement of the problems associated with "puppy mills" thereby encouraging more adoption of rescue animals • Work for the formation of a statewide task force focused on the horrors of dog fighting, which shockingly, still takes place in many areas of South Carolina.
